Round II State 6A West Playoffs

Alexander Central 69 Piedmont 44

Taylorsville: The West #2 seed Alexander Central had scarcely more than a scrimmage wearing game uniforms Thursday night. The Lady Cougars led 25-5 after the opening quarter and were up by as many as 38 in the third quarter. The pressing, swarming Lady Cougar defense forced 39 Piedmont turnovers.

Ava Head hit her first three shots, all from the behind the arc, and the rout was on. Head would finish the night with 24 points. Meredith Wike added 18. The visitors from Monroe got a bit closer in the final period out-scoring AC 12-5. The Lady Cougars are 23-3 and will host a most familiar foe in Round III. Watauga has lost three-times to ACHS this season and will visit the Cougar Den on Saturday. Game time is 7 pm.
