Hudson: The Spartans scored four runs in the 5th inning and swept the best of three series on Wednesday night.
Alexander Central led 2-0 after 3 innings.
Pitcher Jude Carter was working on a strict pitch count as the result of his over 100 pitches thrown in last weeks 13 inning win in the fourth round, over St Stephens. He was pulled after 57 pitches and 3.1 innings. Reliever Gunnar Johnson got the final two-outs in the fourth but ran into 5th inning trouble. He would allow 4 runs in the inning despite giving-up only two hits. A throwing error by Johnson sent a pair of South Caldwell runners home.
South’s first run was produced when left fielder Luke Church homered in the 4th. Church would end the night with 3 rbi.
AC finishes the season 25-5.
South Caldwell at 23-6, will head to the 6A State Finals and face the winner of the Southern Lee vrs Southern Alamance series. After Southern’s Alamance’s 12-2 win Tuesday, a deciding game III will come on Saturday.
