Alexander Central 30 Freedom 20
Morganton: Alexander Central won their conference opener on Friday night and they did it the old fashioned way; Ground and Pound !
The Cougars rushed for 346 yards on the night and zero through the air. Sawyer Chapman-Mays led the ground attack with 30 bruising carries for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jeremiah Whitaker added 95 yards (including a 73 yards race to the end zone) and a pair of scores.
Freedom was held to 230 yards and were limed to only 12:34 minutes of possession time. Alexander Central controlled the pigskin for 35:26. Patriot QB Kaden Davis threw for 133 yards and ran for 62 and atouchdown. Aaron Duncan collected 12 tackles for Freedom.
The AC defense was led by Maurice Howell Jr with 6 tackles and Weston Palmer with 4.
The game was played at Patton High School due to flood damage at Freedom’s home field.
ACHS is 3-3 and 1-0 in Northwestern Conference play. Freedom drop to 3-3 and 0-1.
The Blue and Gold will host Watauga next Friday for Homecoming.
