Alexander Central Opens League Play With Victories Over St Stephens

Alexander Central 61 St Stephens 29

Hickory: Alexander Central opened conference play Friday night with a rout over St Stephens. Up 22-6 after the first quarter, the Lady Cougars never trailed and improved to 13-1. Seven ACHS players scored paced by Meredith Wike’s 15 in only 20 minutes of play. Faith Burch added 10. AC forced 31 turnovers. Ella Barkley led the Lady Indians (2-13) with 12.

Alexander Central 73 St Stephens 54

The teams were tied at halftime at 29. The third quarter belonged to the visitors from Taylorsville. AC outscored St Stephens 28-11. Koa Mikeal led the Cougars with 21 (7-17 from three). Noah VanBeurden added 17 and Kade Flowers had 14. The Indians (9-6, 0-1) got 20 points from Chatham Donley. Alexander Central is 9-5 and 1-0.
