Newton: The Baby Cougars opened the season with a win on the road.
The host Red Devils took an early 6-0 lead in the opening quarter to see AC tie the game in the second period when Xzander Pinnix scored from 9 yards.
The third quarter belonged to the Baby Cougars. They scored twice on runs of 5 yards by Malachi Bennett and Pinnix again from 32.
Newton-Conover added a score in the 4th and AC held on.
Alexander Central had 296 yards of offense to the Red Devils 234.
Xzander Pinnix rushed for 175 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
Lane Chapman led ACHS with 5 tackles.
