Alexander Central Director of Athletics Nathan Robinson has released the following statement regarding the end of the state mandated “Dead Period” for high school athletes.
I just want to say thank you to everyone that has been involved in the conversation and decision making throughout this process. This information is constantly changing and policy / procedures are continuing to be updated for us to reopen our campus to our student athletes. Safety will always be our number one goal when it comes to protecting them and our coaches.
The decision has been made to push back the start of this summer’s practices until July 6th. At that time we will implement the “Covid-19 Return to Play Policies and Procedures.” We are meeting as a group; Dr. Hefner, Mr. Palmer, and myself on Monday afternoon to finalize this document. When we finish that document, I intend to share it with all of you and post it to our website for our parents and athletes to familiarize themselves with it as well. We have been working together for the past several weeks to implement our plan to return and the list below outlines some reasons why we choose to push the date back.
Ensure we have all necessary equipment to follow guidelines
Ensures we have policy / procedures in place to follow all guidelines
Ensure knowledge of next phase from the state
Aligns with surrounding counties and local parks and recreation
The Recent spike of COVID-19 cases in Alexander County
Nathan and Alexander Central Head Football Coach Butch Carter will be live on the air Friday morning at 7:40 to discuss the challenges for athletes, parents, and fans.
