Taylorsville: Alexander Central handed first year coach Chris Marshall his first win at his alma mater Friday night beating Ashe County 34-7
AC coming off a beat-down against Hickory was able to get their ground attack going rushing for 374 yards on 36 carries. Sophomore Jaquis Parks had a par of first quarter scores from 54 and 86 yards to give the Cougars a 14-0 lead.
Sawyer Chapman-Mays would score the first of his two touchdowns with 11:19 left in the second quarter from 12 yards and the Blue and Gold led 22-0.
Ashe County would pull to within 22-7 with 5:21 remaining in the first half when Riley Estes scampered in from 30 yards. The teams went to the half with no other scoring.
Sawyer Chapman-Mays outran the Husky defense from 50 yards with 6:55 in the third period, Alexander Central led 28-7.
MJ Howell capped the scoring when he hauled in a 31-yard toss from Jacob Hubbard early in the final quarter and the Cougars put the game in the win column.
Sawyer Chapman-Mays gained 179 yards on 20 carries for ACHS. Jaquis Parks added 174 on just 7 carries. QB Jacob Hubbard was 6-6 for 79 yards and a score.
Ashe County QB Bryce Peters finished the night 25-40 with an interception and 202 yards.
AC out gained the visitors 453-263.
