Alexander Central Basketball Sweeps Ashe County In Season Opener

Taylorsville: The Lady Cougars hyper-defense forced 46 turnovers and cruised to a win over Ashe County. AC led 24-22 at half but pulled away in the third period outscoring the visitors 25-10.

Meredith Wike was the lone Lady Cougar in double figures with 24 points.

New Cougar Coach Grant Hodges has brought a fast paced, quick-shooting brand of basketball to Taylorsville. So far, so good ! Alexander Central led by as many as 34 in the third-quarter before clearing the bench that allowed the Huskies to win the 4th period 31-21. Noah VanBeurden poured-in 25 points in his ACHS debut. He was 6-14 from beyond the three-point arc. Zac Driver-Davis had 16 including 4-4 from distance. AC attempted an astounding 47 three-pointers and made 17. Koa Mikeal and Jaheim Redmond added 13 each. No Cougar saw less than 9 minutes of action in the game.
