Maiden – On March 5, at approximately 3:50 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Caleb Road near East Maiden Road. A fifteen-year-old juvenile riding a makeshift skateboard exited his driveway, entered the roadway, and was struck by a 2011 Freightliner truck traveling south.
The juvenile was critically injured and was transported by EMS to Atrium Health Lincoln, in Lincolnton, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck and a passenger were not injured.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately one hour.
No charges will be filed in this case against the driver.
