Alexander County Deputies Make Felony Drug Arrests After Traffic Stop

What started as a traffic stop by the NC Highway Patrol ended with significant drug charges Friday night in Alexander County.

A vehicle was stopped on Highway 127 by a Patrol Trooper. The driver would be charged with driving with license revoked.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office responded and seized 121.1 grams of methamphetamine, 25.4 grams of cocaine and 191 grams of Xanax. 44-year-old Dwayne Michael Evans of Harrisburg and 34-year-old William Eugene Sweezy III of Gastonia were taken into custody. Weapons were also seized. The suspects face the following charges

Felony trafficking methamphetamine
Felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver meth
Felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine
Felony maintain a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance
Felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule IV controlled substance
Possession of firearm by a felon
Possession of drug paraphernalia

Evans was the driver of the vehicle and is charged with driving with license revoked.

The suspects are being held in the Alexander County Detention Center. Evans’ secured bond is $251,500. The bond for Sweezy is listed at $250,000.

First court appearances are scheduled for Tuesday, August 8th in Taylorsville.
