The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office announced this morning that 29 year old Barbara Elizabeth Sherrill was taken into custody Monday afternoon. Sherrill has multiple address listed including Hiddenite and Lenoir.

Deputies along with assistance from Iredell County including a K-9 trained in bomb detection searched the campus. No device was found and the threat was determined to be a hoax.
Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Deputies with assistance from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office found Sherrill at an address she had listed in Lenoir. She was transported to the Alexander County and placed in custody. She was charged with a count of felony false report of mass violence on educational property. She was placed in the County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond. Sherrill is scheduled to appear in court Monday, March 19th in Taylorsville.
Sheriff Chris Bowman said this morning that “This was a very serious situation, we take all threats seriously especially anything involving a school.” He indicated there is no evidence that anyone else was involved in the incident. Bowman also stated that Sherrill was “upset over the disciplinary action taken by the school involving her son who was recently suspended.” A news release also says that Sherrill had boasted to others that law enforcement “better find them (bombs) before they go off.”
