Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said today that the investigation into a shooting in the Wittenburg Community has been assumed by Federal Authorities. We’ve been following the story throughout the week and here is a breakdown on what is known.
Last Saturday around 9pm Alexander County 911 took a call regarding shots being fired at a residence on Pine Tree Lane which is near Wittenburg Elementary School. Officers responded and found a male subject with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and a leg. Alexander Rescue transported the subject to an area hospital where he was treated and released on Sunday. It is thought that the subject in question was the only person hit by gunfire.
A vehicle was impounded which had multiple bullet holes. A number of subjects have been questioned by the local Sheriffs Office but no charges have been filed. Sheriff Bowman says that a number of people were present at the time of the shooting and a number of the subjects “exchanged gunfire”. Bowman also said some of those present had been under suspicion for drug trafficking by local authorities and Federal Investigators as well. At least 2 females were also either present at the time of the shooting or were potential subjects in the drug investigations.
It is likely the Federal Drug Task Force will draw indictments next week in Federal Court. As many as six suspects may be involved according to Sheriff Bowman.
Efforts to contact Federal Authorities to this point have been unsuccessful. Since no charges have been filed, no names can be released.
