Alexander County lost a 911 operator and a dedicated firefighter Monday when Eric “Bubba” Pennell died while on duty at the Taylorsville/ Central Alexander Fire Station.
Alexander EMS responded to the call and attempted to revive a man that had dispatched them to countless calls over the years. Pennell was pronounced dead at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Pennell known for his sense of humor and friendly manner was well known in the community. He had worked Sunday as a 911 operator and was on duty Monday as a firefighter. Many of Pennell’s friends have posted messages on facebook, some saying “He died while doing what he loved to do.”
Eric “Bubba” Pennell was 49 years old.
