Two North Carolina Department of Corrections Officers were injured during an altercation with an inmate Tuesday morning at The Alexander County Correctional Institute. One of the officers was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center with unspecified injuries according to a spokesperson with The Department of Corrections. The extent of the injuries are not certain but said to not be life threatening. The second officer suffered minor injuries that did not require further medical attention.
The Alexander County Sheriffs Office is investigating the incident. Sheriff Chris Bowman says it appears the inmate physically assaulted one officer and had an altercation with the second officer when they intervened. The findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for a determination if charges will be filed against the inmate.
