Alexander County’s unemployment rate increased slightly during January according to the latest figures released Friday by The North Carolina Department of Commerce and Labor.
Alexander County recorded a 4.5% rate of unemployment during the month of January compared to 4.1% in December 2016. Every neighboring County recorded increases.
Statewide the rate of joblessness was listed at 5.5% compared to 4.9% in December. Hyde County had the state’s highest rate of unemployment at 16.3%, Buncombe County was the lowest at 4.3.
