18 year Jared Neil Mecimore, shared with friends Wednesday night an image of another student holding a rifle according to Iredell Sheriff Darren Campbell. The image contained the text “Don’t come to school tomorrow.”
The image was reported to the sheriff’s office last night. Deputies soon located Mecimore, and determined that the threat was a hoax, according to a press release.
Mecimore, of Seven Springs Loop, Statesville, was charged this morning with making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property, a felony. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.
Sheriff Campbell said the charge is intended to deter others from making other false reports.
Mecimore did not attend school on Thursday. Iredell deputies increased their presence at area schools and will continue to do so in the coming days, Campbell said.
