Prior to sunrise on December 24th, 2010 Sprinkle was driving a vehicle that struck and killed Robin Bowen of Taylorsville near the intersection of US 64/90 and Millersville Road. Bowen was among a group of runners getting in a pre-Christmas jog. A least two other runners suffered injuries. Sprinkle was charged with 2nd degree murder and felony serious injury by vehicle as well as numerous other counts. Sprinkle was found guilty by an Iredell County jury in 2014 and was sentenced to concurrent terms of 238-295 months in prison on the 2nd degree murder charge and 25-30 months for felony serious injury by vehicle.
Sprinkle’s conviction was appealed by her attorney but the court denied the appeals and upheld the conviction and sentencing. Sprinkle, according to court testimony was found to be “extremely impaired” and tested positive for cocaine, cocaine metabolites, Diazepam, and alcohol. She, according to the Highway Patrol was traveling approximately 60 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.
