Kuhns was on the stand Wednesday and he testified that he and Dockery had been in something of disagreement during the day of the shooting. Kuhns told the court Dockery was yelling at him from outside his mobile home in Hiddentite. Kuhns said he grabbed his pistol and walked outside because in his words he “knew he had to protect himself” Kuhns testified he had called law enforcement earlier in the day to “deal with Dockery”. He said on the stand as to his lack of satisfaction with the Alexander County Sheriffs Office, “ya’ll didn’t do anything about it so I did”.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Floyd said Kuhns shot an unarmed man and was not remorseful and in fact was “bragging” about the killing during an interview with detectives investigating the case.
The case is expected to go to the jury today.
