According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Mitchell was a passenger in a vehicle traveling east on Jolly Cemetery Road. As the vehicle approached the intersection it was struck on the passenger side by a 2nd vehicle which had ran the stop sign with the intersection with Daniels Lumber Road. The 2nd vehicle was driven by 38 year old Adam Steven Warren of Taylorsville. Warren, nor the driver of the vehicle in which Mitchell was a passenger sustained injuries. The Warren vehicle caught fire according the Highway Patrol but the fire was not the cause of the fatality.
According to Patrol Trooper T.C. Hayes, Warren has been charged with death by vehicle, driving while license revoked, failure to stop at a stop sign, and resisting arrest. Warren is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center. The accident is still under investigation.
