Shortly after midnight Officer R.W. Taylor heard another officer shout “Watch Out” just before a vehicle ran though the traffic stop on Highway 16 South. Several law enforecement vehicles were present including one with the blue lights flashing when the driver came within a few feet of striking Taylor.
The vehicle stopped some distance later and the driver was arrested. According to the arrest report the driver admitted to being impaired on numerous medications.
Taken into custody, 33 Jerry Calvin McIver of Northmont Road in Taylorsville. McIver was charged with driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving. He was placed in the County Detention Center. McIver has a court date set for May 29th.
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted in the arrest.
