A Taylorsville homeowner was able to escape the flames of a house fire Sunday afternoon. The home suffered significant damage but the homeowner was not injured.
Taylorsville, Wittenburg, and Ellendale Fire Departments all responded around 1:30 to a home off Fairgrounds Road. The homeowner was awakened by the flames and attempted to fight the fire but had to leave the dwelling.
Deputy Fire Marshall Mark Earle says the home suffered $30.000 to $40,000 in damages and the cause has yet to be determined. The fire did spread to a small grass area around the home but the threat of it spreading further was extinguished by the firefighters. Earle says if the flames had made it to the nearby woodland it could have spread very quickly.
