The Alexander County Sheriffs Office is investigating an incident that occurred early Sunday Morning.
We have learned an officer was involved in a chase that began in Bethlehem and ended when a suspect or suspects fled the vehicle on foot in Hickory.
Around 4am Sunday an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 127 near the Lake Hickory Bridge. The suspect vehicle fled south into Catawba County at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued and the suspect vehicle is said to have rammed the officer’s vehicle at least twice.
The suspect, thought to be a male subject exited the vehicle on foot and fled. He has not been located at last check. A female subject fled the vehicle as well after it caught ablaze.
As of Monday night no arrest had been made but according to Alexander County Chief Deputy Todd Jones “A possible suspect has been identified” but he did not identify them. Jones says a loaded weapon was found in the suspect vehicle. Hickory Police are assisting the Alexander County Sheriffs Office.
