An Iredell County deputy working security at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Sunday July 8th was assaulted while attempting to detain an unruly patient in the Emergency Room.The suspect, Yvonne Louise Fuller, became loud and verbally abusive towards hospital staff and others when asked to leave. Fuller had been observed by hospital staff members taking items out of the cabinets in the emergency room. Fuller told one of the security guards she would take his gun and shoot him in the head. Deputy B. Gudgeon went to assist the security guard. Fuller threatened Deputy Gudgeon. She told him he would have to kill her and she was going to kill him and everyone else in the hospital.
While attempting to take Fuller into custody, she injured Deputy Gudgeon’s hand , causing lacerations. After being taken into custody, it was determined Fuller had outstanding warrants from the Statesville Police Department. The police department was called to the hospital and took Fuller into their custody.
Warrants were issued for Assault Inflicting Serious Injury to a Law Enforcement Officer, Assault on a Governmental Official, Two Counts of Communicating Threats, Disorderly Conduct and Resist a Public Officer. Fuller was given a 10,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.
