Shelby beat Taylorsville Post 170 in game one of their quarterfinal American Legion quarterfinal series.
Shelby picked up the win 8-5 in 11 innings in a game played in Taylorsville. Shelby scored twice in the first inning before Taylorsville scored single runs in the third and fifth . Shelby took the lead again in the 7th to see Post 170 knot the game in the 8th. It looked like Shelby would get the win after picking up a couple unearned runs in the 9th but the home team tallied two runs of their own to send the game into extra innings. The visitors from Cleveland County put the game away with three runs in the 11th.
Post 170 out hit the visitors 12-8 with by Rhyne Johnson going 5 for 6 and three runs batted in. Kyler Fairchild had three hits and a rbi.
Game two of the best of five series will be Friday night in Shelby at 7pm.
