The search for a new Head Football Coach at Alexander Central High is about to enter another phase. According to AC Principal Doug Rhoney applications will be accepted through Thursday. Rhoney said there has been a lot of interest in the job. The position became vacant when Coach Nick Bazzle announced his retirement on January 12th. Bazzle said “It was a tough decision that I had thought about for some time but it was the right time to step aside and see what retirement is like”. Bazzle added “ I will try retirement but leave my options open if the itch is too great to coach again”. Coach Bazzle went 17-29 in 4 seasons coaching the Cougars after a career record at Newton Conover of 122-56 including a State 2A Championship.
Principal Rhoney and Director of Athletics Joanna Crew along with a search committee will meet shortly after the application period ends and start the process of setting up interviews. Rhoney said shortly after Bazzle’s retirement that he “ would like to hire a new coach as soon as possible maybe even offer a recommendation for hire as early as the February Board of Education meeting”
