A pair of series sweeps has led to another rise in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) national poll for the Pfeiffer University softball team. The Falcons, who received three first-place votes, have moved up one spot to No. 3 in the country after sweeping Winston Salem State and Emmanuel this past week.
Pfeiffer currently sits at 33-3 (11-1 CC) and is only seven wins away from breaking last season’s all-time program record. With seven players hitting .312 or better, the team boasts a Conference Carolinas-leading .324 batting average and rank No. 13 nationally with a relentless 7.06 runs per game. In addition, its 1.79 team ERA is good for 17th across the country.
Sophomore shortstop Vada Blue Sherrill has tallied 35 stolen bases through 36 games, which is t-3rd in the nation. She also set a new school record for career runs scored last week with her 102nd. Senior catcher Rachel Crowder needs just four doubles to break the program’s record of 43 in a career and her 268 total bases is five shy from the all-time mark. She’s also 15 short of the all-time RBI record (123).
In the circle, both senior Sydney Poole (10-0) and sophomore Kiana Millsaps (6-0) have not lost a single game, while junior Kennedy Lester is 8-1 on the year. Freshman Caitlin Christian is 8-2 with a team-high five saves.
Pfeiffer will look to extend its six-game winning streak when it hosts Southern Wesleyan for Senior Day at Jack Ingram Field this Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
