Stephanie Fortner’s clutch 3-run home run kept Pfeiffer in position to move up the rankings. The Falcons trailed 4-2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth before Fortner launched her first career home run over the left field fence to give Pfeiffer a 5-4 victory. In game two, Makenzie Pennell connected on two long balls as the Falcons defeated Southern Wesleyan 9-1 in five innings.
Pennell was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week as the freshman hit three home runs in the doubleheader. In the process, Pennell broke the single season record for RBI’s with her 49th run driven in and moved into second with 10 bombs. It was the third time this season that Pennell won the honor.
Pfeiffer hasn’t lost since suffering a 3-0 defeat against Limestone on March 19. On the season, the Falcons own a .324 team batting average and have hit 31 long balls in 38 games. They are 18-2 at home and are just five wins shy of breaking the record for most wins in a season that was set a year ago.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
