According to a release from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, 27 year old Carrie Marie Adkins of Taylorsville was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds as well as Felony Possession/Alteration of a Serial Number on a Weapon.
Also charged with the same offenses was Lee Roy Lingerfelt III, age26 of Lenoir. Lingerfelt was also charged with driving with a revoked license.
According to Sheriff Chris Bowman a 32 caliber handgun was found in the glove compartment of the vehicle operated by Lingerfelt. Bowman said the weapon never left the glove compartment and played no part in the incident.
Adkins did enter the building and was involved in a verbal exchange with staff which prompted a 911 call.
Alexander County School Superintendent Jennifer Hefner said that staff “was concerned about the safety of Adkins” prompting the call to The Sheriff’s Office.
