Mooresville High School has a new head football coach.
Marty Paxton, head coach at Hickory Ridge High in Harrisburg since 2007 and a former football and wrestling coach at Mooresville, was unanimously hired by the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education Tuesday night.
He succeeds Hal Capps, who took a head coaching job at Seneca (S.C.) High School.
Paxton, who will be 40 in June, received his degree from Appalachian State University in Boone and started his coaching career at Central Cabarrus High, where he was a defensive coordinator, head wresting coach and assistant baseball coach, as well as a speed and strength coordinator.
Mooresville is a member of the North Piedmont Conference along with Alexander Central, Lake Noman, North Lincoln, Statesville, West Iredell, South Iredell, and North Iredell High School.
