One person is in the custody of Hickory Police following a high speed chase that ended with a violent crash this morning in Alexander County.
Hickory officers had spotted a man operating a vehicle this morning in Catawba County. The operator was considered to be a suspect in some recent break ins. The subject had been sighted although his identity was unknown with regards to investigations in both Catawba and Alexander County. The suspect fled from officers at a high rate of speed on Highway 127. The chase continued into the Bethlehem Community, ending near the intersection of Heritage Farm Road. The sedan driven by the suspect crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck head on. The suspect was not injured, however a female passenger was transported to an area hospital. The driver of the truck also sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital. No report is available on the condition of the injured at this time.
Hickory Police is in charge of the investigation and has yet to release any details including names of those involved. Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman said this afternoon that charges will be filed against the suspect in Alexander County as well. We will continue to follow the story and provide more details as they become available.
A section of Highway 127 was closed for around 90 minutes as result of the crash.
UPDATEDHickory Police have charged 40 year old Bruce Lorenzo Miller of Hickory. Miller is facing charges of possession of stolen goods, fleeing to elude arrest with motor vehicle, breaking and entering, larceny, six counts of felony probation violation, and a number of other traffic related offenses. Miller is also expected to face a number of charges in Alexander County as well
