A former Taylorsville resident has entered a guilty plea on a charge of Aggravated Felony Death by Vehicle. 31 year old Tyler Kirkpatrick McClure of Winston Salem entered the plea Monday during a session of Alexander County Superior Court. McClure was the driver of an SUV that crashed into a moped after crossing the center line on Highway 90 in Alexander County on October 30, 2013. 29 year old Wencasiao Montero Gomez of Wilkesboro was pronounced dead at the scene of the mishap.
McClure was charged by the North Carolina Highway Patrol with 2nd degree murder, DWI, Driving while license revoked, and driving left of center. As the result of the plea all charges with the exception of Aggravated Death by Vehicle were dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.
McClure was given an active sentence of 80 to 108 months in prison. He was given credit for time served since his arrest 2 years ago. McClure was represented by Taylorsville Attorney Joel Harbinson.
