A man found dead Tuesday evening in his home died from a gunshot wound, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.
The ruling comes after a preliminary autopsy was conducted on 80 year old Hugh Lee Moose, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Moose, a local businessman who owned Hugh’s Sheet Metal and lived alone at a home in the 500 block of Shiloh Road.
Campbell said deputies are still following up leads, but no suspects have been identified.
The death has been ruled a homicide.
Campbell said he believes someone broke into the home through a glass side door earlier that evening. It is possible the suspect was attempting to rob the home, but that is still unknown, he said.
Investigators are hoping to identify and locate a man seen on a side road off Shiloh Road that same night.
The person of interest is a white male between 25 and 35 and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing light-colored Carhartt overalls and a dark backpack. The man was clean shaven with sandy blonde hair.
Those who might be able to identify the man or provide other information are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 704-878-3180 or Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340. A special homicide hotline also has been set up at 704-928-9804.
