Taylorsville Police arrested a man on felony drug charges following a stop for speeding last Thursday evening. Taylorsville Police Lieutenant K.D. Elder stopped a vehicle for speeding after he clocked it at 70 mph on Highway 64-90. The posted speed limit is 55.
When the driver stopped and the officer approached the vehicle a strong odor of marijuana was present. A bag containing one pound of pot was found.
23 year old Jose Martices Canales of Moore Lane in Hiddenite was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. Canales was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond. He has a first court appearance scheduled for today (3/20/2017) in District Court.
