Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Abbey Hartsell has been named to the 2017 WGCA NCAA Division II All-American Second Team. WGCA is the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.
Hartsell, a sophomore from Taylorsville, N.C., is the first Lenoir-Rhyne player to garner All-American accolades since Meghan Jolly in 2002.
Hartsell was named the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golfer Of The Year and led the Bears to their first league championship in 13 seasons with their first-place finish in Greeneville, Tenn. Hartsell finished runner-up in the SAC Championship Tournament as well.
Hartsell is a two-time all-league first-team honoree (2016-17) who played in the NCAA Division II South Super Region Tournament two weeks ago in Elgin, S.C., where she finished tied for seventh. Hartsell led the SAC in scoring average (75.8) and her four-under 68 on Tuesday, October 11, at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational was the lowest round for the conference this year.
