Freedom head Football Coach Brandon Allen has resigned according to a press release from Burke County Public Schools.
Allen’s teams went 39-31-1 in six seasons, including a 27-9-1 mark with the Patriots since 2014.
Allen was coach at Tuscola in his native Haywood County until he was hired in early July 2014 after Blair Hardin left the FHS job late in the offseason to take the North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) job after one season at the helm in Morganton.
In his first year, Allen guided the Patriots to just the program’s third undefeated regular season all-time as he was named conference coach of the year. The following season, Freedom won its record third straight conference title and tallied its record sixth consecutive campaign with 10 or more victories.
Freedom stumbled to a 6-6 record in 2016.The end of the season was marred by a locker-room fight after the Patriot’s first ever loss to Patton. Ten players were suspended for the next game after three had been arrested early the next week in the aftermath of the fight.
Freedom and Alexander Central will be part of the New Northwestern Conference beginning in Fall 2017.
