Escaped inmate Jason Lorance Strickland, 35, was located Wednesday when he checked into a homeless shelter in Beckley, W.Va., and was arrested there by the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, stated a DOC news release.
The DOC said Strickland was picked up by a woman driving a dark GMC SUV while he was part of a work crew in southeastern Wilkes County on July 27. He was seen at a shop in Galax, Va., several days later, but there had been no leads since then.
Strickland was sentenced to prison after he was convicted of felony breaking and entering and larceny in Burke County in November 2015. He was scheduled for release in October. The Wilkes Correctional Center is a minimum custody state prison.
Officials said preparations are being made for his extradition to North Carolina. He is originally from Burke County.
