An earthquake shook Wilkes County on Saturday along US Highway 421 near Millers Creek. The 2.4 magnitude quake hit around 9:50 p.m. and was at a depth of 5.1 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake on Saturday night came two days after 1.9 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday at Plumtree, in Avery County. That quake was about 60 miles west of the Saturday Wilkes County quake. There were no reports of damage.
