If you live along the shores of Lake Hickory or Lake Lookout you will notice some rather drastic water level changes today. Duke Energy will conduct some scheduled work on a single gate at Oxford Dam. According to a company spokesperson a single gate will be raised fully (12 feet) between the hours of 8am and Noon. This could potentially lower the lever of Lake Hickory 1 foot and raise the level of Lake Lookout as much as 3 feet. By the end of the day the water levels should be back to normal after Lake Roadhiss opens gates to replace the flow. It’s very rare that a gate is opened fully and in doing so levels will change quickly. Beware of the rushing water below the Oxford Dam today !!!
