The Alexander County Law Enforcement Center is getting a new name. Monday night the Alexander County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to name the facility in honor of former County Sheriff Elisha Bebber.
The concept of naming the Law Enforcement & Detention Center in honor and memory of past Sheriff Thomas Elisha Bebber, Sr. was suggested to current Sheriff Chris Bowman in 2012 shortly after the facility opened. . The idea was to create a permanent and fitting memorial to honor the service and sacrifice that Sheriff Bebber made on June 2, 1959 when he was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic dispute.
