The Alexander County Board of Commissioners intend to discuss and vote on a possible County wide alcohol referendum at their meeting Monday.
With the proposed Wittenburg Township referendum being denied in the State House Of Representatives on July 1st Commissioner Ryan Mayberry said last night that he intends to put an ABC referendum before the entire county in November.
Alexander County voters narrowly defeated a proposed ABC vote in 2013. Since then County taxpayers have been hit with two property tax increases. “The need for revenue is undeniable” according to Commissioner Mayberry and “this time it will pass” he said.
If the Board authorizes the proposal, the November ballot will include a vote on alcohol sales in one of the only 2 dry counties in North Carolina.
