Alexander Central lost their second straight game Friday night when Mooresville thumped the Cougars 35-14 in Taylorsville. Two things might be said in accessing the ACHS Football team in 2016. They are better than a year ago but they’re not there yet, more work needs to be done.
The visiting Blue Devils won their 7th straight with an effective running game led by Donshell Jetton who picked and weaved his way through the Cougar defense for 168 yards. Mooresville controlled the line of scrimmage all night and held Cougar star tailback Bryson Godfrey to 84 yards and no touchdowns.
Mooresville jumped to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Cougars got a 3 yard scoring run from Quarterback Gunnar Anderson cutting the deficit in half. Mooresville would answer with a score and the Cougars pulled to within 21-14 when Anderson hit Devin Weiss on a pass from 13 yards and Coach Butch Carter’s Cougars were within striking distance at the half. The Blue and Gold however were held scoreless for the rest of the game. The Blue Devils would add 2 second half touchdowns and set up a showdown for the North Piedmont Conference lead against Lake Norman next Friday in Mooresville.
ACHS drops to 6-3 on the season but with two wins to close out the regular season the Cougars could reverse there record from a year ago when they went 3-8. The next challenge is at Statesville next Friday.
