The Alexander Central Football team has lost 3 games in a row and still consider themselves a “very good football team” according to Cougar coach Butch Carter.
Nobody is happy to be 6-4 and getting over last week’s heartbreaking loss to Statesville has been a challenge. The Greyhounds scored two late touchdowns and rallied to win 28-27 in a game that “has been one of the toughest losses I’ve ever been a part of” the coach said this week. “We’re not pointing fingers, we’re learning, we have to finish the game better”
Finishing the game has been an issue. The Cougars led at half of the South Iredell game, were down 3 with the ball in the 4th quarter against Lake Norman, were down 7 starting the 4th quarter against Mooresville, then the melt-down against Statesville
Tonight is Senior Night at Cougar Stadium and a vastly improved West Iredell team is the challenge. Last year the Warriors went 0-11, this year they enter the finale 3-7 so they have made some strides. “They jump in and out of a lot of sets and they have some speed but mostly we’re concentrating on us and what we have to do”
The Blue and Gold know that with 4 losses they will be on the road in the post season so tonight will be the final home game for a group of seniors. “This is a special group of seniors, they accepted me when I came here and I’m proud of them” Carter said Wednesday. “We owe them and they owe themselves a win”
