Alexander Central will make a trip to Pumpkin Center tonight for a North Piedmont Conference game against North Lincoln. For the 2nd straight week it looks like a major mismatch on paper. The Cougars come in at 5-1 on the season after celebrating homecoming last Friday spanking North Iredell 55-8. The Cougar Offense has been nothing short of electric this season under 1st year Coach Butch Carter. They are averaging 56 points per game and hoping to set up a key two week home stand against a pair of conference elites in Lake Norman and Mooresville. First things, First. That’s what Carter’s coaching staff has been selling to their team all week.
North Lincoln on the other hand comes into the game at 1-5, their lone victory was two week ago against North Iredell 35-9. They feature a hard running, bruising, tailback in Stephen Jackson. Jackson has scored 4 touchdowns this season and rushed for over 600 yards. Jackson is not one to go down with an arm tackle and after a week of practice the Cougar defense has that ingrained in their memory. North Lincoln runs an unusual offense based on putting as many players on the line of scrimmage as possible and controlling the clock.
Most area games were moved up to Thursday due to the possibility of wet weather tonight but North Lincoln might like the prospect of a muddy field in hopes it might slow down the Cougars.
Both teams will be moving to other leagues next year. The Cougars will head back to the Northwestern Conference where they have spent most of the school’s history. North Lincoln will drop to a 2A classification in 2017 and join the Southern District 7 along with such foes as Bandys, Maiden, and Newton Conover.
B86 will have all the action on the Radio and Streaming Live Worldwide on 860wacb.com. The Countdown to Cougar Kick Off begins at 6:30, the battle will begin at 7:30.
