The second match-up of a crucial two game home stand for Alexander Central is tonight, they plan on things coming out a bit more to their liking this time.
Last Friday the Cougars fell to undefeated Lake Norman 45-21 after trailing by only 3 heading into the fourth quarter. Coach Butch Carter said this week he could feel Lake Norman’s confidence heading into the final period and that disappoints him because “It was our confidence I wanted to sense, we’re going to get better at that” according to the Coach. “They blocked and tackled better than we did and we’re going to get better at that, too.”
Tonight, it’s a hot Mooresville team that rolls into town. The Blue Devils stumbled out of the gate losing their first two games but have won 6 straight and are undefeated in the North Piedmont Conference knowing a win against Alexander Central will set them up for a showdown with Lake Norman.
The Blue Devils have hung their helmets on defense and their star tailback Donshell Jetton. The defense is allowing less than 2 touchdowns per game for the season and Jetton is over 1,200 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns. “We better put pads on him and wrap up because he’s too good to come down with an arm tackle” Cater said this week. Mooresville’s defense impresses Carter particularly the secondary that the coach calls “fast and long and they come up and play the run very well.”
At 6-2, the Cougars know a win tonight would define their season but they’ll have to do it without one of their important pieces. Junior Safety/Running Back Jacob Parson will not play due to a concussion suffered last week in a brutal hit. Coach Carter stopped short of commenting but did say“I sent the video of that hit to the state, we’ll see what they think.”
It’s Military Appreciation Night at Cougar Stadium. The kick-off is at 7:30. “The Countdown to Cougar Kick-Off” begins at 630 on B86 Radio and streaming worldwide on 860wacb.com
