One team is coming off a bye tonight while the other is coming off a whipping of an old rival. Alexander Central will Host Bandys this evening at Glenn Wilson Field at Cougar Stadium.
For Coach Butch Carter and his Cougars they come into the game with the momentum of a 4th quarter comeback win in their opener against Watauga and a convincing rout last week over South Caldwell. The Cougars spanked the Spartans 54- 7 in a game that might have been more one sided than even the scoreboard indicated. The Alexander Central offense piled up 500 yards and cruised after jumping out to a 34-0 lead one play into the 2nd quarter. Junior tailback Bryson Godfrey scored the first two times he touched the ball and added a kick-off return for score later in the 1st half. Devon Weiss added two touchdowns and Tejuen Calhoun after sitting out the opener with a shoulder injury led the defense with 11 tackles.
Bandys is coming off the bye week so they have had two weeks to prepare for the battle this evening. Coach Trent Lowman’s Trojans won their season opener over South Caldwell 46-24 but were defeated 34-18 at the hands of Fred T Foard in Week 2.
Alexander Central leads the all time series 3-0 including a 42-20 victory last year in Catawba. The kickoff tonight is at 7:30. A reminder to fans: Tonight is endowment night so only NCHSAA, NCAA, and Senior Tar Heel Cards will be honored at the gate.
