A Shelby man is free after spending 30 months in The Alexander County Detention Center.
28 year old Sylvester Lamar Watson jr of Shelby was released last week when a judge dismissed the charges. Watson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. The charges stem from an incident in the Hiddenite Community in May of 2014.
Superior Court Judge Anna Mills Wagoner dismissed the charges last Wednesday following two days of testimony in Alexander County Superior Court.
Three witnesses testified in court. The victim told the jury that Alexander County Sheriffs Deputies “wouldn’t release her until she identified Watson as the suspect”
That testimony drew a terse response from Alexander County Chief Deputy Todd Jones. “That’s not what happened, we don’t operate that way.”
Watson was released and said he plans to return to Shelby
