An Alexander County man died in a fatal crash less than a mile from his home Friday evening.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper, Bryan Terry, the crash occurred around 10pm Friday on Robinette Road. 33 year old Stephen D. Peoples was pronounced dead at the scene of the single vehicle crash. Peoples was the driver of a vehicle that ran off the roadway, striking a utility pole and going airborne down an embankment before landing in a grove of trees. A Female passenger identified as 34 year old Ashley Holland of Taylorsville suffered what Trooper Terry described as “severe injuries.” She was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.
Trooper Terry says both driver and passenger were wearing seat belts and the investigation is ongoing. He indicates that speed was a likely factor in the accident.
