An Alexander County school was evacuated Wednesday due to the threat of a possible explosive device on campus. The Alternative School located in the former Wittenburg Elementary location was evacuated around 11am after a student had voiced there was a bomb on campus. According to County School Superintendent Jennifer Hefner the campus building was evacuated including staff, students, and employees. Several County offices are in the same building and they too were evacuated. Alexander County Sheriff Chief Deputy Todd Jones said a search was conducted and no device was found. The student who is under the age of 16 was taken into custody and is being held at the local Juvenile Detention Facility according to Jones.
