Two people are dead as the result of a pair of unrelated crashes this afternoon, one in Alexander County and another a few miles away in Iredell County.
Around 2:50 pm a crash was reported on Old Mountain Road near the intersection of Liberty Church Road in Alexander County. The accident is said to have involved two vehicles. One person was pronounced dead and another was airlifted to a regional medical facility. The Highway Patrol is still on the scene at this time.
Around 2pm an accident was reported in Iredell County on Highway 90 between Lippard Farm Road and Tarlton Road. A motorcyclist is reported dead as the result of the crash and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a Sheriff’s Office was involved in the accident. They have not explained the circumstances of the wreck, the Highway Patrol in investigating.
A report now indicates An Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy with more than 23 years of service was killed Wednesday afternoon in a wreck with another Iredell deputy.
Cpl. Bill Wood, who was off-duty, died on Taylorsville Highway when his personal motorcycle collided with a patrol car driven by Deputy Justin Betts, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
