Alexander County 911 received a call June 24, 2016 at approximately 2:38 AM in reference to a Breaking and Entering in progress at a home located at 11 Springfield Drive, Stony Point. Deputies responded and upon arrival found that the owners of the home had a suspect restrained and holding him in the floor. Officers took the suspect into custody and he is identified as 31 year old Homero Javier Martinez age 31 of 498 Parsonville Road, Taylorsville.
The victims reported that Martinez knocked on their door at approximately 2:38 AM and told the victims that he was stranded and needed to use a phone. The victims gave a phone to Martinez to use, a short time later Martinez handed the phone back to the victims and then pulled a gun and demanded entry into the home. Once inside the home Martinez demanded money. The homeowner was able to grab Martinez and a struggle ensued. While struggling with Martinez the gun discharged into the residence no one was hit and the homeowner was able to get the gun from him. The homeowner then got Martinez onto the ground and held him their until Officers arrived.
Martinez was charged with 1st degree Burglary Attempted Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Kidnapping and Shooting into an Occupied Residence. Bond was set at $250,500.00. A first appearance is set for June 27, 2016. The investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
